Nine Commonwealth Avenue is a New York style brownstone of historical vintage located on the first block of Boston’s prestigious Commonwealth Avenue in the affluent Back Bay neighborhood. Located among the most prominent private residences in Boston, the building offers easy access to the beauty of Boston Common, the hustle and bustle of Newbury Street’s shopping and dining scene and sweeping views of the Charles River. The residents of Nine Commonwealth Avenue own an iconic piece of Boston’s colonial history.
The investment itself offered affluent buyers ultra-luxury condominiums. The complete renovation included 13,887 square feet distributed between six distinctive and elegant units. 10,153 square feet of the property was reserved for four floor-through units and the top floor of the building was crowned with a 3,734 square foot duplex penthouse.
Exterior renovations included the complete redesign and installation of a historically accurate new façade characterized by an eloquent floor to ceiling window line for each unit. When completed, the façade with its balconies, pediments, dental molding and columnar detail, was on par with the timeless historical architecture of the vintage building adjacent to the property.
On the inside, improvements began with a complete gut and rehab of the entire building. Ceiling heights were redistributed throughout the building and a six car-parking garage was installed in the basement allowing for direct access from private parking to the residences. All of the property’s systems were replaced to raise the construction quality and efficiency for the entire project. Each unit-included designer finishes such as architectural details, exotic stone, custom flooring, millwork and cabinetry. To complete the building’s visage, the duplex penthouse was given a beautiful balcony off the main level offering a spectacular view of the public gardens and Commonwealth Avenue esplanade.
